Fleming Timber Structures is thrilled to announce three new contract wins for a variety of main contractors across Scotland. Spanning education, sport and funeral care, these projects reflect the commitment to providing high-quality timber engineering across a diverse range of industries.
Whitecraig Primary School
We are pleased to be partnering again with Morrison Construction as they deliver their £18.5m contract to build the new Whitecraig Primary School in East Lothian. With the area enjoying a significant increase in population as a result of several new housing developments, the original school – first erected in 1959 – will be replaced with a new building, featuring eight classrooms and a nursery/early learning facility. Additionally, the project will feature a dedicated community entrance and improved pedestrian cycling safety measures, to account for increased traffic.
Fleming Timber Structures are providing an optimised structural solution incorporating timber frame panels, floor and roof cassettes, along with some impressive glulam beams which are over 15m in length.
With work underway as of Spring 2024, we are excited to play a part in improving the educational experience of pupils and parents alike.
Bishopbriggs Crematorium
Situated within greenspace north of Bishopbriggs, our work with Luddon Construction will see the creation of the new Bishopbriggs Crematorium and associated development.
The design takes full advantage of the generous space within the location to erect offices, car parking, a new access road, and a landscaped garden of remembrance- all designed to improve the quality of service and overall customer experience.
The building itself comprises of four linked elements; the entrance, waiting room and public toilets; the main chapel building; the facility offices and the cremator room. Externally, a new 3-arm roundabout will be constructed along with new access road, a new drainage scheme, installation of two new bus stops on the western and southern arms of the roundabout, new footways, signage and kerbing.
With this being another project, we’re delivering alongside Luddon Construction, the design and approach has been continually refined with bespoke feature glulam trusses, engineered timber roof cassettes. Given the size of the glulam trusses, these were designed and manufactured in our onsite factory then transported to the site for installation.
Remaining idle since its use as a balloon barrage site during World War II, the project is expected to conclude in Winter 2024.
Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre
Remaining in East Dunbartonshire, we will be supplying a full timber frame structural solution for the walls and roof to create a high-performance thermal envelope as part of our work to breathe new life into Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre. Working in collaboration with Morgan Sindall, the space will act as a hub for a variety of activities including cycling, kayaking, and canoeing.
Built on previously derelict ground and touted as a space for all ages, the centre will also function as a space for volunteering, education, and training.
