We Are

Skill Scaffolding Ltd

Founded in 1992 by Paul Skilton, Skill began with just one scaffolding team. Fast forward to today, we now have over 30 teams out & about erecting both our scaffolding and our Internal safety system Rhino Deck.

Skill Scaffolding are now one of the largest privately-owned scaffolding companies along the south coast – run by a team of 4 Directors – all of whom have worked their way up over many years with Skill, growing and evolving alongside the company. At the head of our team and driving the business into the future is Alan Skilton, following in the footsteps of his father Paul.

The team of directors are supported by 3 Operations Managers who control the workforce daily; one Quality Control Manager; one Health & Safety Manager; a Fleet & Logistics Manager and a Business Development Manager.

We believe that our success stems from the pride we take in our performance and our genuine commitment to provide an honest, safety first and reliable service; something which really shines through from the moment we get involved with any project.

Skill Scaffolding

Our Mission

Services

Design, Planning, Surveying & Consultancy

One of the newer options available to prospective clients is a choice of planning, surveying, and consultancy, in addition to our typical design services.

We understand the impact a well scoped and pre-planned project can have on its overall success; both from a commercial and safety critical point of view. Whilst definitely not a requirement for all jobs, we’ve come to find that on many of our larger scale remedial projects, existing structural information available to tendering contractors can be either non-existent, or somewhat lacking in overall accuracy against the final built product.

This then leads to inaccurate tenders in the form of missed items, under/overpriced works, ultimately resulting in commercial and operational conflicts across the board, leaving all parties dissatisfied.

In order to counter this, we decided to bring these services in-house and instead, offer them to our clients, either as an entirely separately paid-for service, or to

supplement our own tenders, putting us a step ahead of our competitors in terms of true accuracy.

How do we do it?

We use a range of advanced tools and technologies, including in-house drones to capture your projects from all angles, as well as our Leica RTC360 3D Laser Scanner, to provide pin-point accurate and detailed surveys of every inch of your construction project quickly and efficiently.

We then translate this captured information into a usable asset, known as Scaffold Information Modelling (SIM), (a technology similar to BIM) to create highly detailed, true, 3D models of your scaffold design against the exact reality captured by our scanner. This allows us to identify potential issues and optimise the design for safety and efficiency with far more detail than working from 2D drawings – which may not be ‘as-built,’ nor do they capture any changes in the surrounding environment or building itself over time.

  • Ease of use: Rhino Decking’s systemised components make it very easy to build, cutting install and dismantle times by 70% over traditional tubular birdcages.
  • Durability: Rhino Decking is made from high-quality materials that are designed to withstand heavy use and exposure to the elements, ensuring a long service life, as well as having a higher load capacity than a traditional ‘Medium Duty’ scaffold.
  • Versatility: Rhino Decking can be used in a variety of internal access applications, including mezzanine floors, suspended walkways, and gantries, and unlike other similar products on the market, it is self-contained & self-supporting.

Skill are committed to providing safe and reliable internal access solutions for our clients. Our team of experienced installers are fully trained and certified in the installation of Rhino Decking, and we use only high-quality materials and equipment to ensure that our internal access structures are safe and reliable.

In addition to Rhino Decking, we also offer a range of other internal access solutions, including traditional tube and fitting scaffolding, as well as Layher System Scaffolding, both of which are capable of producing birdcages & crash-decks to ensure all your needs can be met successfully.

If you are looking for a safe, reliable internal access solution for your project, please consider our Rhino Decking. Contact us today to learn more about our services and to schedule a consultation.

Robotic Lifting & Hoist Solutions

Skill Scaffolding are always on the hunt for ways of modernising our industry by implementing new technologies. As such, in 2022 we made the choice to invest in Kewazo, a German robotics & AI company which are currently disrupting the hoists industry in a big way. They offer cutting-edge robotic lifting solutions to make your projects safer, more efficient, and more cost-effective. Our flagship product is the Skill ‘LiftBot’, a state-of-the-art robotic lifting system that is revolutionising the construction industry.

What is the Kewazo LiftBot?

The Kewazo LiftBot is a highly advanced robotic lifting system that is designed to streamline and automate construction site logistics. The system uses a combination of artificial intelligence and advanced robotics to transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to and from high places quickly and safely, whilst simultaneously recording critical site efficiency data and feeding it back to the teams in our office for analysis.

Why Choose the Kewazo LiftBot?
  • Safety: Our LiftBot is designed with safety in mind. The system eliminates the need for workers to climb ladders or work at heights, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Efficiency: The LiftBot can transport construction materials and equipment faster and more efficiently than traditional lifting methods, reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
  • Cost-Effective: The LiftBot can help to reduce labour costs by automating many of the tasks that would typically require human labour.
  • Versatility: LiftBot is highly versatile and can be used in a wide range of construction applications, including scaffolding, roofing, and façade work. It is independently powered and so can be used almost anywhere, unlike traditional hoists.

System Scaffolding

Skill offer a wide range of scaffolding solutions to meet the unique needs of our clients. One of our specialties is the Layher System Scaffold. A modern, versatile, German-Engineered alternative to traditional tube and fitting scaffolding, which is widely regarded as the industry standard for modular scaffolding systems.

What is System Scaffolding?

System scaffolding is a scaffold that uses pre-engineered components to create a modular framework. Unlike traditional tube and fitting, which is built piece by piece, Layher components are designed to fit together quickly and easily, reducing the amount of time and labour required to erect and dismantle the scaffolding.

Why Choose Layher System Scaffolding?

There are several advantages to using Layher, including:

  • Versatility: Layher can be configured to fit a wide range of project requirements, including irregular shapes, heights and angles. Its modular components allow for easy customisation and adjustment.
  • Speed: Because the Layher scaffolding components are pre-engineered and designed to fit together, they can be erected and dismantled faster than traditional tube and fitting scaffolding. This can save time and reduce labour costs for projects of any size.
  • Safety: Layher system scaffolding is designed to meet the highest safety standards, with components engineered for maximum strength and stability. Its secure locking mechanisms and rigid bracing ensure a safe, stable and clear platform for workers, without the need for ledger bracing found within traditional tube & fitting scaffolds, which tend to get in the way somewhat.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Layher system scaffolding is often more cost-effective than other types of scaffolding, particularly for larger projects. Its modular components allow for efficient use of materials and labour, reducing overall costs.
Our Approach

At Skill, we prioritise safety and quality in all of our scaffolding projects. Our team of experienced scaffolders are fully trained and certified to install all types of System Scaffolding, but we chose to invest in Layher specifically because of their shared commitment to using only the highest-quality materials during their manufacturing process.

Traditional Tube & Fitting Scaffold

Skill specialise in providing high-quality traditional tube and fitting scaffolding services throughout the UK. With years of experience in the industry, we have developed a reputation for providing safe, reliable scaffolding solutions for a wide range of projects.

What is Traditional Tube and Fitting Scaffold?

Traditional tube and fitting scaffolding is a widely-used method of erecting scaffolding, particularly popular in the UK. It involves using metal tubes and fittings to create a sturdy framework for workers to access high or difficult-to-reach areas. The tubes and fittings are secured together using couplers, which provide a strong, stable structure that can support the weight of workers and their equipment.

Why Choose Tube and Fitting Scaffold?

There are several advantages to using traditional tube and fitting scaffolding, including:

  • Versatility: Traditional tube and fitting scaffolding can be used for a wide range of projects, from small residential renovations to large commercial construction projects.
  • Durability: When installed correctly, traditional tube and fitting scaffolding is extremely strong and durable, making it a safe choice for workers to use.
  • Customisation: Because it is made up of individual tubes and fittings, traditional tube and fitting scaffolding can be customised to fit the unique needs of each project and adapted on the fly.
  • Cost-effective: Traditional tube and fitting scaffolding is often more cost-effective than other types of scaffolding, particularly for smaller projects, as it’s the most readily available product on the market.
Safety & Training

Safety is our top priority. We take every precaution to ensure that our scaffolding is installed safely and securely, following all the latest NASC & Technical Guidance, supported by our in-house Health & Safety team. Our team of experienced scaffolders are fully trained and certified, and we use only high-quality materials and equipment to ensure that our scaffolding is safe and reliable.

In addition to our traditional tube and fitting scaffolding services, we also offer a range of other scaffolding solutions, including system scaffolding, robotic lifting and hoist solutions and internal access platforms such as Rhino Decking.
